Fee and referral information at TLC Psychological Services

Fees and referrals

Seeking treatment at TLC Psychological Services is accessible and affordable.

Session rebates are available through Medicare, as well as some private health insurers. Concession card holders are also eligible for a reduction in fee.

Some clients may also attend treatment as part of an insurance claim, such as a motor vehicle accident or workers compensation and this is coordinated with the insurance company.

Medicare rebates cover more than half the cost of the session, which reduces out of pocket expenses significantly.

Understanding Your Referral Options

Mental Health Care Plans

Under the Governments Better Access to Mental Health Scheme, your GP is able to write you a Mental Health Care Plan.

This makes you eligible for Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

It is important that you book an appointment with your GP to begin this process. Some GP practices require a double appointment to be booked when a mental health plan is to be considered.

This allows them time to have a discussion with you and complete the relevant paperwork.

However, please check with your medical practice, as it may differ between sites.

Private

Some people choose not to get a mental health care plan for a variety of reasons and self refer instead.

Private clients finance their own treatment or may be eligible to receive rebates through their private Health funds.

Some private health insurers offer rebates for psychological services.

However, please check your eligibility with your health provider prior to attending your session.

Please contact reception if you would like to discuss further, or have any questions.

The First Session

Attending therapy can generate mixed emotions for people.

Clarifying what you can expect from your first session, may allieviate any diffcult feelings that may be showing up.

Getting There

As a starting point, we are located on Level 3. The escalator to get to the floor is on the right hand side when you enter the building.

Security for the building is fairly tight after business hours. For clients with after hours appointments, the easiest thing to do is to let us know when you have arrived and we will gladly come down and open the entry door for you.

On Saturdays the cafe can get quite busy, if you feel comfortable doing so, you can enter through the cafe. Alternatively, just let us know and we will come and meet you outside.

Once you get inside the practice, you will be greeted and asked to complete some necessary paper work.

Upon finishing that, your psychologist will invite you to join them in the combortable consulting room to begin the session.

The Initial Session

This is an opportunity for your psychologist to gather information about your current concerns, how these concerns have been impacting on your life and any background information that may be necessary. Goals for treatment will be developed collaboratively during this session.

The information provided is used to develop your individual treatment plan. By nature, treatment plans are designed to guide treatment approaches and also be flexible to accomodate any changes that may present throughout the course of treatment.

What to Bring

If you have been referred by a GP, please bring your Mental Health Care Plan with you to your first appointment.
